Position Title: Coordinator for Strength and Conditioning
Position Reports to: Director of Athletics
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Coordinator for Strength and Conditioning is a full-time exempt staff position (12 month) which oversees the general operation and maintenance of the Athletics' weight room, along with enforcing safety procedures. The Coordinator for Strength and Conditioning will direct all strength and conditioning activities for the Department of Athletics which includes all in-season and out-of-season programs used by CMU student-athletes.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Effectively design and safely implement strength and conditioning programs for multiple sports with differing physiological needs/concerns.
- Provide instruction for proper weightlifting and conditioning techniques.
- Ensure a safe and productive working environment, enforcing all codes of conduct.
- Communicate with the athletic training staff as to injury concerns and rehabilitation modifications for student-athletes.
- Effectively communicate with coaching staff any concerns regarding their team and/or individual student-athletes.
- Create and maintain a scientifically-backed training philosophy.
- Demonstrate and coach a variety of agility, speed, flexibility, and conditioning exercises, drills, and techniques with student-athletes across several sports programs.
- Monitor the daily training progress of all student-athletes; counsel student-athletes in the area of performance enhancement.
- Supervise graduate students, work-study, and student interns.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises a staff of student workers and graduate assistants in both office and game-day settings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree; master’s preferred.
- Experience working in intercollegiate athletics environment and strength and conditioning preferred.
- Must possess Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa).
- Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
- A strong working knowledge of basic strength training techniques.
- Strong motivational abilities.
- Evidence of ability to interact positively with student-athletes, colleagues, and the public.
- Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
- Experience in program design with the ability to work with multiple sports.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand walk, and sit for extensive periods.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must be able to gain and maintain CMU driving approval. Weekends and evening work is required. Knowledge of NAIA and Heart of America Athletic Conference policies as they relate to the conduct of athletics, faculty, staff, and students.
